ENRICH Rotterdam: emission-free heating, generating energy locally while reducing grid congestion. HyER Power (Saul Oost) and DC Opportunities (Laurens Mackay and Gerasimos Maroulis) are developing the ´ENRICH´ system that makes this possible. ENRICH stands for Electrification, Networked Renewables and Integrated Capacity for Hydrogen-storage'. And that gives a perfect description of the system: sustainable electrification of usually fossil-based processes through the application of direct current (DC) and hydrogen (H2).
With the SES grant, these partners in collaboration with FLIE are conducting a feasibility study of the ENRICH system that combines the innovation of a microgrid with a system that converts hydrogen into electricity and heat. After a successful feasibility study, the parties will build and test ENRICH at the FLIE site.
Saul Oost: We chose the cooperation with FLIE because it is one of the few in the Netherlands that has a hydrogen production facility at its disposal with which we can test extensively. In addition, FLIE is a party with a lot of knowledge and expertise in electrification. This helps us conduct experiments to validate our product. Finally, FLIE is closely linked to the port industrial complex in Rotterdam, where many of the potential customers of our system are located. So plenty of reasons to choose FLIE!
