From CO2 emissions to Fuels and Chemicals: Current Development, Challenges and Perspectives

Capturing CO2 via Direct Air Capture using solid amine adsorbents is an important option to reduce CO2 emissions. Schellevis, Jakobs & Brilmans evaluate in their study the possibility of a continuous adsorption process for direct air capture in a radial flow contactor, with both batch and continuous operation. They found a 15-25% lower capture efficiency for a continuous process compared to a batch process. This decrease in gas-solid contact efficiency is more pronounced with longer adsorption time and higher superficial gas velocity. In general, a batch process is preferable to a continuous process in most operating conditions.
